Horseshoe Springs Ranch has been a breeding farm of American
Quarter Horses for one half of a century. We have registered a filly in 2011. This registration marks the fiftieth year of our registering a horse that we have bred. Throughout this time the farm has produced National
Champions, Superior Pleasure horses, Superior Pleasure Horse sires, many
futurity winners and AQHA point earners.
As a breeding farm, Horseshoe Springs Ranch traces its roots
back to the 1958 King Ranch bred mare, Pokey Pixy by Pokey Light by Peppy's
Pokey and finally to Peppy #212, a double bred Old Sorrel Stallion. Within two
generations on her dam's side, Pokey Pixy traces back to Red Dog P-55.
Pokey Pixy, bred in 1965 to Coy's Bonanza, produced the AQHA
Champion mare, Pixy's Bonanza.
Pixy's Bonanza, in turn, when bred to Mister Tailwind produced Pixy's
Tailwind, who proved to be a multiple pleasure horse sire. It is sons
and daughters of Pixy's Tailwind who have been crossed with outside
blood lines that have produced the horses for sale here at the farm.
The outside blood we've crossed with the daughters of Pixy's
Tailwind is that of A Double Jack, by Double the Money and out of Pep Up Jackie
by Two Eyed Jack. Pep Up Jackie was an outstanding all-around performer and an
AQHA champion. Her qualities which she passed on to "Jack" are congruent with
the type of horse we strive to raise.
We no longer stand a stallion but breed our good mares to outside stallions.
